Ashtanga Inspired

This is a  dynamic and  energetic class.

Ashtanga Yoga is a practice with a predetermined sequence of asanas or postures. In this class the student learns to focus on the constant union between breath and movement. While this class is more vigorous, it can be tailored to meet a variety of students needs.

As always reminded of the sacred and personal nature of the practice we call Yoga

Deep Stretch

This practice is a fusion between traditional Yoga and modern adaptations. The primary focus of this practice is to build strength and flexibility. As alignment and concentration improves, confidence increases, a greater awareness of the mind, body and spiritual connectedness becomes clearer.  Poses are held for a little while in order to stretch the body’s connective tissues, tendons and ligaments lubricating them and improving their flexibility.

In the class we learn finer adjustments in the body alignment, and use props like blankets, straps, and blocks.   Asanas (postures) and pranyama (breathing) are practiced through different sequences, flows, length of time, and can be intensified to ensure positive effect. Taking the time to move into a posture, becoming stable, and remaining stable for some time one can intensify the depth of the posture and can extract all the benefits, such as, relieving the stresses in our modern life, uniting the body, mind and spirit for well being.

The practice ranges from gentle, intermediate, and intense versions. It helps create balance and peace in the mind.  It also helps to improve your meditation practice and flow of energy.

Hatha yoga is described as a merging together of sun and moon, left and right, or the masculine and feminine principles of the body through asana.  It affects the mind as well as the body. It is the type of yoga which is widely practiced by westerns, the physical yoga, where we begin to consciously move through postures. The benefit of yoga depend on presence of mind during practice, making this practice much more than purely physical. Come to create balance and peace in your life by stretching muscles that you never knew you had.  As we begin to strengthen and open the body through these postures, asana, we also encourage concentration, find inner stillness, perseverance, patience, and self-acceptance, which, will benefit our mind and overall health. Qi Gong, Beginner

This class is on HOLD, due to Cristin enjoying her baby boy.

Qi Gong is a meditative exercise that uses an ancient series of movements to help people focus on, move, and manipulate the flow of qi through their bodies. Qi Gong enhances any medical treatment and one’s potential for healing. Qi (pronounced “chee”) can be translated as “vital energy’ and is the life-giving energy that is within every living thing. Gong means “hard work” or “skill”. “Qi Gong” refers to this type of ancient Chinese exercise that teaches us how to work with the energy within us and around us. Using gentle movement, breathing techniques, and visualization Qi Gong strengthens the connection between the mind and body and enables us to shift our focus inward. Qi Gong is gentle and safe enough for anyone to do and can have many wonderful health benefits. Stress reduction, enhanced focus, improved blood flow, and a greater awareness of the physical body are just a few of the many benefits you can experience through practicing Qi Gong. Cristin Gregory has studied Qi Gong for eleven years under Master Zhongxian Wu, Master Wang Qingyu, and Heiner Freuhauf in the United States and in China. Cristin Gregory has been trained in both the Mt. Emei School and the Jin Jing Gong Schools of Qi Gong. She teaches Qi Gong both privately to individuals and to groups.

Stretch and Flow Yoga

Stretch and Flow yoga is a mindful and compassionate approach to yoga that emphasizes asana, breath work, and meditation. It offers a balanced class of sitting, standing, and balance poses that help practitioners deal more effectively with the stress of everyday life. Modifications are always offered, making this yoga suitable for all levels.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the “going-to-sleep” stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed.  This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light consciousness. The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state called samadhi.  Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.

Youth Yoga

Youth yoga is not story-time, kids yoga.  We welcome 11-16 year olds to this unique yoga class tailored specifically for their age group.  Drawing from various yoga styles from Vinyasa to Restorative, students will learn sun salutations, asana, breathing techniques, and meditation in a fun, non-competitive environment.

  • How to calm the voice within to support ourselves, develop our mindset and align our behaviors.
  • How to manage the noise without to create powerful moments of reflection, with the intention of creating more authentic relationships, a happier self and a more purposeful life.

We will refer to Michael Singer’s The Untethered Soul & The Surrender Experiments well as Thich Nhat Hanh’s Silence & The Miracle of Mindfulness.  Reading is not necessary—just come and share your story!

 Vinyasa

Also known as Flow Yoga, promotes both cardiovascular and muscular stamina.  It is a more rigorous practice linking breath with movement in a faster pace. If you enjoy sun salutations you will enjoy vinyasa!

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a practice of stillness that allows us to nurture the inner calm, quiet space by working with poses (asanas) and breath (pranayama). In this class, poses are held for 3-5 minutes to lengthen muscles and connective tissue, bring inner awareness to the body, and cultivate self-gratitude and -compassion. A yin yoga practice will help build overall health by tapping into the nervous system, decreasing anxiety, and offering a chance to slow down and sit with our emotion. This class is designed for all levels and is encouraged for those who wish to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

Restorative Yoga

This practice creates a sanctuary for your body, mind and spirit.   By completely supporting the body with the use of props and focusing on the breath, the nervous system is calmed and deep tension is released.  This increases not only our flexibility but our capacity to heal.  Poses are explored for 5-15 minutes to encourage deep relaxation.  Appropriate for all levels and prefect for anyone with stress in their life which is all of us.
