Deep Stretch

This practice is a fusion between traditional Yoga and modern adaptations. The primary focus of this practice is to build strength and flexibility. As alignment and concentration improves, confidence increases, a greater awareness of the mind, body and spiritual connectedness becomes clearer.  Poses are held for a little while in order to stretch the body’s connective tissues, tendons and ligaments lubricating them and improving their flexibility.

In the class we learn finer adjustments in the body alignment, and use props like blankets, straps, and blocks.   Asanas (postures) and pranyama (breathing) are practiced through different sequences, flows, length of time, and can be intensified to ensure positive effect. Taking the time to move into a posture, becoming stable, and remaining stable for some time one can intensify the depth of the posture and can extract all the benefits, such as, relieving the stresses in our modern life, uniting the body, mind and spirit for well being.

The practice ranges from gentle, intermediate, and intense versions. It helps create balance and peace in the mind.  It also helps to improve your meditation practice and flow of energy.

Qi Gong, Beginner

This class is on HOLD, due to Cristin enjoying her baby boy.

Qi Gong is a meditative exercise that uses an ancient series of movements to help people focus on, move, and manipulate the flow of qi through their bodies. Qi Gong enhances any medical treatment and one’s potential for healing. Qi (pronounced “chee”) can be translated as “vital energy’ and is the life-giving energy that is within every living thing. Gong means “hard work” or “skill”. “Qi Gong” refers to this type of ancient Chinese exercise that teaches us how to work with the energy within us and around us. Using gentle movement, breathing techniques, and visualization Qi Gong strengthens the connection between the mind and body and enables us to shift our focus inward. Qi Gong is gentle and safe enough for anyone to do and can have many wonderful health benefits. Stress reduction, enhanced focus, improved blood flow, and a greater awareness of the physical body are just a few of the many benefits you can experience through practicing Qi Gong. Cristin Gregory has studied Qi Gong for eleven years under Master Zhongxian Wu, Master Wang Qingyu, and Heiner Freuhauf in the United States and in China. Cristin Gregory has been trained in both the Mt. Emei School and the Jin Jing Gong Schools of Qi Gong. She teaches Qi Gong both privately to individuals and to groups.

It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed.  This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light consciousness. The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state called samadhi.  Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.
