Belly Dance
Belly dance consists of a broad range of styles from Lebanon, North Africa, Egypt, the Arabian Gulf, and Turkey. These styles are united in the use of isolation movements of the hips, chest, shoulders, head, and arms, as well as serpentine and undulating movements of the torso. The rhythms and instrumentation used vary greatly, but in most there is an emphasis on percussion.
This is a great way to exercise the core. It also helps to improve mental focus, as the exercises require each participant to isolate certain areas of the body. Belly dancing is appropriate for all ages, and all fitness levels. No prior dance experience is necessary. For those with some experience, we can add in layering and other more advanced options as desired.
Participants are encouraged to wear clothing that is comfortable, but that allows the instructor to monitor the movements of the torso and hips. Hip scarves (with or without fringe, coins, or baubles) are encouraged but not required. We may also experiment with veil work. Belly dance is fun for friends to come to together -- if you've ever wanted to take a class with friends, this is a great opportunity!

Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga is described as a merging together of sun and moon, left and right, or the masculine and feminine principles of the body through asana. It affects the mind as well as the body. It is the type of yoga which is widely practiced by westerns, the physical yoga, where we begin to consciously move through postures. The benefit of yoga depend on presence of mind during practice, making this practice much more than purely physical. Come to create balance and peace in your life by stretching muscles that you never knew you had. As we begin to strengthen and open the body through these postures, asana, we also encourage concentration, find inner stillness, perseverance, patience, and self-acceptance, which, will benefit our mind and overall health. Each teacher adds their own personality and wisdom to their classes, but in each Hatha yoga class you will find a connection with movement and breath, strength and relaxation, as well as meditation and release. Perfect for beginners and amazing for intermediate to advance students to deepen their practice and knowledge.
Kundalini
Kundalini is our natural unmanifest energy. In most of us, it is blocked in certain areas, sometimes by trauma, or just by not knowing how to release it. By practicing Kundalini Yoga we begin to remove these blockages, thus making this energy more available to us for use. This class is an eclectic Kundalini class. It is integrated with brief moments of stillness/meditation between the active heat building Kriyas (kundalini movements) to help balance the mind/body connection. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Kundalini Yoga is that it is fun and the energy of laughter may become unblocked, so don't be surprised if you end up laughing during the class. There is a belief in Kundalini that "The best way to still the mind is to move the body"...So, come on in and give it a try, the worst thing that can happen is you end up having fun...!!!

Beginning Qigong
Qi Gong is a meditative exercise that uses an ancient series of movements to help people focus on, move, and manipulate the flow of qi through their bodies. Qi Gong enhances any medical treatment and one's potential for healing. Qi (pronounced "chee") can be translated as "vital energy' and is the life-giving energy that is within every living thing. Gong means "hard work" or "skill". "Qi Gong" refers to this type of ancient Chinese exercise that teaches us how to work with the energy within us and around us. Using gentle movement, breathing techniques, and visualization Qi Gong strengthens the connection between the mind and body and enables us to shift our focus inward. Qi Gong is gentle and safe enough for anyone to do and can have many wonderful health benefits. Stress reduction, enhanced focus, improved blood flow, and a greater awareness of the physical body are just a few of the many benefits you can experience through practicing Qi Gong. Cristin Gregory has studied Qi Gong for eleven years under Master Zhongxian Wu, Master Wang Qingyu, and Heiner Freuhauf in the United States and in China. Cristin Gregory has been trained in both the Mt. Emei School and the Jin Jing Gong Schools of Qi Gong. She teaches Qi Gong both privately to individuals and to groups.
