Heather has her masters in
education from Harvard University and has been teaching middle
school, high school and college for the last 10 years. Heather
completed her 220 hour certification through the Bodhi Tree in
June2008. For two weekends a month,
right here in our own CY studio, she immersed herself in all types
of practice, philosophy and anatomy. The training was the frosting
on the cake of many years of personal practice and studio practice
from Colorado to North Carolina. Some of her students say she is a
"new" teacher after her training- full of ideas, full of
modifications and full of energy. Heather believes that our yoga
reflects our lives and our lives our yoga.
Heather began
seriously studying yoga as a student seven years ago when she moved
to Telluride, Colorado. While in Telluride, she studied Bikram Flow
and fell in love with Ashtanga. For the last four years she studied
full timewith her guru, Victoria, on
a beautiful, tiny bamboo floored studio in the mountains of
Colorado six days a week. There she learned to connect the breath
with movement. Since moving to North Carolina last year, she has
made her happy home at Community Yoga. She was immediately struck by
the acceptance and support of the community and began coming to
class as often as possible. Currently she teaches a teen yoga class
as well as Go with the Flow. Heather attributes yoga and its
benefits with saving her life several times over the years and
healing her heart .If we
can learn to take the balance, strength, and flexibility from our
mat, off the mat, the world will be a better
place.
Go with the Flow- this class connects breath
and movement. Poses are held longer than a vinyasa class in order to
feel the intricate and sometimes small sensations in the body as we
stretch, move and balance. The class begins with a
breathing/grounding exercise, then to a warm up of the larger
muscles of the body, and then a series of postures centered around a
theme and/or a body part. For example, a class may focus on hips and
hipopeners, or backbends, or twists, letting go, patience and
compassion. The class ends with a cooling down and a very restful
and needed sivasana! All levels are welcome. Heather enjoys helping
students reach their edge and also scale back! Props are employed
for adjustments and modifications. Students of this class will
hopefully leave feeling a little fatigued, calm and more
balanced.
