Community Yoga Testimonials

General Testimonials of our Students

I’ve been practicing yoga for close to 10 years I guess, but I never really “needed” it until my mother passed away. It provided me a place to “turn off” the voices of grief, anger, and anxiety and “listen in” to just me. I’ve silently cried during some classes, because the relief was so great. It was an essential outlet for me. It gave me my physical confidence back, when I felt like I was always on the verge of illness. It gave me some sunshine in my darkest time. I always look forward to Sunday mornings now, even though my grief has finally subsided (most days) because yoga is like therapy to me. It teaches me self acceptance, love, and patience; for me and for the people I love the most. Thank you to Amy, who provides so much more than a physical “workout”, but an emotionally safe place, with warm and happy people. Her sincerity and enthusiasm is what keeps people coming back, as well as her skill, of course! Namaste,

I felt very relaxed and calm during the hour that I was there. I really feel that the focus on spirit, mind, and body last is what I am looking for at this point. So, I would like to thank you for contacting me and getting me set up in the subtle yoga class on Wednesdays. I am really look forward to this new journey.

Community Yoga offers a warm, non-competitive environment in which to strengthen your mind/body connection. The center embraces every body at every level. Instead of striving to get to the next level or the perfect pose, I'm encouraged to do what's right for me and what feels good. Even as I literally stretch myself with every pose, I learn self-acceptance, peace, and the joy of working out with a community of people of all ages and body types. We set aside judgements and expectations and let ourselves experience a sustaining physical and spiritual connectedness. . . . Sunday morning classes are sacred for me. They set the tone for my entire week, stretching my body and calming my mind. The effect is more immediate and long-lasting than any other workout or meditation. When I miss a week, I notice a change in my entire outlook on life. Coming back is like coming home, back to my center.

Community Yoga is one of the most welcoming places I have ever practiced. Every level of student, from beginner to advanced, can find a class to suit them. The studio itself is unpretentious, well-stocked with props and warmly inviting. The teachers really do strive to create a yoga community and there is a wide variety of classes and workshops to keep you coming back.

“Ellen breaks down belly dancing into easy and learnable steps, even for non-dancers! It’s the first fun dancing class for me. Thanks, Ellen!” Jean “Belly dancing has helped me move parts of my body I thought were dormant. Namaste!”

I truly enjoyed your class on Sunday! There are many things about Community Yoga that I really like. I LOVE that there are absolutely no mirrors in the studio as I do not think appearance should be the focus. Your word of the session, gratitude, was particulary appropriate for me as I am trying to be thankful for my new body as I adjust to my new skin at this point in my recovery. This is very difficult to do which is another reason I am glad that there are no mirrors in your studio.

“I have practiced Yoga with Amy for over a year and always look forward to her classes and her warm, caring, hands-on approach.  And while I enjoy the sessions, I love the long-lasting after-effects – I am relaxed and calm, and feel very stretched out.  I see Amy’s classes as exercise and balance for my mind and emotional state as much as for my body.”

"Having had my initial yoga training in India, I am very picky when choosing yoga instructors - very few measure up to my standards. Amy was one of the rare ones. She does a fine job of passing on the essence and true purpose of yoga practice to her students. She is a fantastic teacher and a joy to work with. Good luck, Amy! Hope you continue to do this for years to come!"
